Book Review: Advanced Rails Recipes Culture | (0)
Although it's still listed as a beta book on the Pragmatic Bookshelf web site, Mike Clark's Advanced Rails Recipes is finished and getting ready to ship. Thanks to Pragmatic's excellent beta program for books (you get to read in-progress PDFs while the author is finishing the book), I've had plenty of time to work with this one already. My verdict: the book is a winner, and its very existence says good things about the growing Rails community. Seattlest most certainly did! But three boys in Concrete, Wash., ages 11 and 12 actually did it, albeit unintentionally. Asus Forecasts Quarterly Shipments Nearly Doubling for Eee PCs Culture | (0)
There appears to be no stopping the success Asus is having with its Eee PC subnotebooks. The company is forecasting this week that it will nearly double shipments of the svelte, low-cost machines in the second quarter. Shipments will rise to between 1.2 million to 1.3 million units, the company says, and it expects to move a whopping 5 million units this year. To put that in perspective, Asus shipped 350,000 units in the fourth quarter. Originally all Linux-based, the company will deliver a Windows-based Eee PC in early May. 125 Best Places to Have a Beer Before You Die Uncategorized | (0)
All About Beer Magazine recently came out with this list of their idea of the 125 best places in the world to have a beer. There are many worthy places on there for sure. But lists like these won't make everyone entirely happy. Here are a few things that stuck out: 1) Of course, the lack of Seattle/Washington places. The controversial bans created "Alcohol Impact Areas" (AIA) in neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, the Central Area, Lower Queen Anne, SoDo, and the University District. I’m a guy who builds his own computers, and I always take care to have a very stable and very fast machine. However, lately I haven’t been happy with its performance; it simply doesn’t work as well as it should - it stutters, stops, coughs, freezes, waits, buffers and loads something way too often.
